Detoxifying the body is a huge trend in Hollywood. Most health gurus suggest cleansing your body before and after the holidays. If strict diets and juice cleanses aren't your cup of tea, did you know you can detoxify your body while bathing???
Cleansing baths pull built up toxins from your body. Besides being a fabulous way to relax, hot salt bath is also a great way for soothing irritated skin, reducing inflammation, calming muscle pain, and lowering blood pressure. Many people wake up the next morning feeling refreshed and energized!
One popular detoxifying bath recipe is so simple you can find ingredients for it in your kitchen: Add 2 or more cups of epsom salts and 1 cup of baking soda to hot bath water. Add between 2 tablespoons and 1/3 of a cup of fresh or ground ginger (depending on how large your bathtub is and how sensitive your skin is). Soak for at least 20 minutes. You can also add 5 to 10 drops of your favorite essential oil to the detoxifying bath for additional aromatherapy benefits. Flower petals are also a beautiful addition!
It's also important to exfoliate your skin with a loofah or sugar scrub. The skin is the body's largest organ and exfoliating it is an important way to detoxify it. Drink lots of water throughout the day to help flush any remaining toxins out of your system
A detoxifying bath can make you feel drowsy, so wait until later in the day to try it and see how it affects you. Be sure to speak to your doctor before taking a detoxifying bath if you are pregnant or have any health concerns.
