Happy Valentine's Day! Now put down the sad box of chocolate covered cherries and smashed flowers from the grocery store. Here are some thoughtful, last minute gift ideas you both can enjoy this Valentine's Day weekend, both in and out of the house. These great valentines are from Scott Tong, above, and Michael O'Neal and Laura Brunow Miner, below, via Pinterest.
Make it a spa day weekend! Couple's massages and other spa treatments are ultra relaxing even if you don't make a full day of it. The couples massage room featured below is the Zen spa treatment room from Unique Hotels. Even if you do make it to the spa, purchase some aromatherapy candles and massage oils for at home or draw a big, luxurious bubble bath (like the one featured below from Pretty Please). You can never be too pampered, and it's extra special coming from your loved one.
Whether it's a reservation at the swanky new four star restaurant in town or a cute picnic lunch at the local park, a thoughtful meal is always romantic. If everywhere is booked, consider cooking at home or getting take out from your favorite restaurant. Push all the couches out of the way and have a picnic in the living room or on your patio. Turn the TV off, dim the lights, and put on a great mix. It's guaranteed to be memorable. Making dinner or dessert -- or even a cup of tea! -- shows thoughtful caring and that's what V Day is all about. (Photo below courtesy of Simon_sees.)
If you're in the mood to go out on the town, pull some strings and grab tickets to something fun. Think hard -- you know your partner has said, "I want to go see that!" recently! Movies, shows, plays, and art exhibitions are guaranteed fun. You never know what's out there until you look, like this exhibition of the history of video games at the Smithsonian pictured by Blake Patterson, below! If your partner's into spontaneity, try something that doesn't automatically spring to mind like the circus or botanical gardens. And if you're looking for something low budget, you can always go to the dollar theater, take a walk in the park, and check if the art museum closest to you is free on February 14th for local residents.
